Fifth graders, in library this week you learned about the 2011-2012 Mark Twain Award Nominees.  These nominees are chosen by school librarians, but students in grades 4-6 get to vote on the winner.  Think about the books that you learned about that were nominated this year.  What made them stand out?

During your computer time this week, when you are not doing Type to Learn, you will be asked to respond to the prompt below.  I will choose a couple of students to post their answers in the comment section of this blog during your next computer time.

If you could choose any book that you have read to be nominated for the Mark Twain award what book would you choose?  Give two reasons explaining why you chose this book.

(The book can be one that has been nominated before, but it has to be one that you have read)

Fourth graders, in library this week you learned about seven different genres.  These genres are categories to help sort the books based on what they are about.  During your computer time this week, when you are not doing Type to Learn, you will be asked to respond to the prompt below.  I will choose a couple of students to post their answers in the comment section of this blog during your next computer time.

In library class this week Miss Turner shared with you the book Joe Bright and the Seven Genre Dudes.  Each of the dudes represented a different genre (non-fiction, science fiction, historical fiction, realistic fiction, mystery, poetry, and folk tales and fantasy).   Choose one of these genres and describe the type of book that would belong in that genre.

The 2011-2012 has officially begun.  I have now gotten the chance to visit with every class in the building.  Starting tomorrow, August 23rd, students will be able to check out two books during their library time.  Library books will always be due any time the class has library on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.  Even if a student wishes to keep a book, they must bring it to class on these days to receive full credit.  They can renew the book and take it with them when they leave.

Thursdays and Fridays will be our computer days.  We will have students working at the Promethean board, practicing typing skills and commenting on blog posts.

I am looking forward to an exciting school year with this group of students.

The Rebecca Boone Library

The Rebecca Boone Library

Welcome to the Rebecca Boone Elementary Library blog.  This blog is a place where I can share information about what’s going on in the library.  In addition to this page I will be creating blogs for each classroom that visits the library.  These blogs will be for students to post book reviews, share what books their teachers are reading in the classrooms and post their thoughts and ideas about what we are working on in the library.
